[Out122ndWay] 1008 NE 122nd Avenue: A Church In Waiting Perhaps

3259.
A house that has been on the way from here (home) to there (typically the Bi-Mart on NE Halsey and 122nd but sometimes the Office Depot or Michael's down by the airport) and has caught my eye because it seems to be in some sort of stasis. It seems to be a bit neglected; and eventually this white sign got nailed to one of the big trees in the spacious front yard. And a luxurious front yard it seems, too, with what looks like a circular driveway, at least as far as I could see through the windfall that's collected there over the past couple of seasons:

So, it's either a going to be a church or was a church. The particular church, as the English on the sign says, is the KIDANE MIHRET ETHIOPIAN ORTHODOX TEWAHEDO CHURCH. I know little about this, but it seems to be a branch of what is called the Oriental Orthodox Church, particularly eastern Christianity with a East African flavor; that foreign script is Ge'ez, which is what they use to write in Ethiopia and Eritrea.

It's been sitting like this for a while. I imagine that the boughs in the yard were probably brought down by the same windstorm that brought down the tree in our yard … in November 2014.

The yard nearest the street is also strewn with trash thoughtlessly thrown by passers-by. The monument in the extreme front is clearly dated Feb. 22, 2014.

The garage seems to have been detailed to be some sort of small chapel.

The real surprise is that this rather large piece of property hasn't been developed into something else.

Staples. It's Staples that has what we need, or gets it, and never tells us when we're standing in the store that we should have checked online.
Which is why we go to Staples and not that other place, where we're usually all but told to go away and use the internet instead of bothering them in person.
