Bright sunshine, peak gleaming with the first snows of autumn. We haven't heard about any ski-resort openings, but surely, they can't be that far off.

Palmer ski lift is open this weekend, and the rain that is supposed to start tomorrow will doubtless bring even more snow to the High Cascades. For today -- enjoy it while we've got it, folks; this is probably the last of the blue-and-gold days that we get in October.
