[liff] My First YouTube Movie: Lunar Eclipse 2007

922. Taken from our front yard (in Beautiful Baja Gresham) using a Vivitar Vivicam 3705 and a lot of experimentation, and made into an animation via Photoshop CS3 Extended:

The camera was moved once of necessity. At the end, the Moon is disappearing behind one of the tall evergreens that we have in such abundance out in our Heavy Eastside neighborhoods.

The Vivicam 3705 isn't much of a camera for photographing the sky, but it was fun to try it out, and it was quality time with The Wife™, which is not a bad thing.

Neither is Photohsop CS3 Extended, which actually allowed me to create a QuickTime movie out of about 28 still shots. Nifty!

Next total lunar eclipse in 2010.

Nice job! I envy you for having a cloudless sky. My photos below show that I wasn't so lucky - NYC was pretty much broken clouds at 10k the entire time. Very cool, though!

Bonus! You were a very quick comment...

Thanks for the kind words. I really want a better camera for these sorts of things–the ViviCam 3705 is but 3.2 MPx (got it a few years ago) and actually is a damn fine all-purpose camera, but for the specialized shots...not so much.

You might note at one point the image goes from kind of an amber cast to white then back. This was me playing with white balance while still shooting.

But I'm happy with it none the less. And through the binoculars it looked...well, stellar.
