Rod HIll: You Can't Keep A Good Weatherman Down

2090.Because I love media and follow both pretenders to the niche Oregon Media Insiders used to occupy (for the record those are Oregon Media Central and Oregon Media Insiders 2.0 (which is what I call it because it's not the offical successor to OMI) I feel obliged to report that Rod Hill, recently shown the door at The Deuce, has come back with a Twitter accound (@rodhillweather) and it's buzzed that he's coming back soon on another tellyvision station – but since this blog's mission is not necessarily to chronicle the Portland market, I'm content to let that one develop in its time.

I do find it cosmically amusing in an otherwise-ineffable way … Rod Hill's first follower? @KATUSteve, a/k/a Steve Dunn.

Shame on Katu for letting Rod Hill go. They keep letting the good guys go and replace them with a big bag of hot air in Dave Salesky! Katu is notorius for this. Don't forget what they did years ago to Lou Gellos and the Steve Arena sports problem. There have been so many shown the door you begin to wonder who is in charge!

I loved watching Rod Hills enthusiasm when he was reporting the weather. He also seemed to have a really good rapport with Rhonda Shelby and Steve Dunn. Why did katu do this????

I no longer watch 2 news, I watch 8 news now. I hope Rod fills the space at 8. His personality and accuracy I miss.

ROD HILL!!!

He is the most accurate, reliable, accountable, forecaster in this Portland market. Whatever station he's on, that's the one I'll watch! I'll miss Steve Dunn and the nice feel of KATU, can't stand that wind bag Dave Salesky, yuk! Good Riddens KATU 2. Someone wake up and hire Rod Hill now!!!

I was honored to meet Rod in person just once. A more unflappable, affable, ready-to-chat, personable person I've not met lately.

You'll be happy to know that, even though I have no idea of his employment opportunities, he's developing his website (www.rodhillforecast.com) and if you get on his mailing list, you'll get nifty emailed forecasts. He's also on Twitter (@rodhillforcast).

Northwest weather for northwest people. You bet.

@ Anonymous: The "Steve Arena Sports Problem" … well, I don't know the dimensions of the "problem", but back in the early 90s KATU had a nifty sports director by the name of Lou Gellos. Neat fellow, I even watched him – and I'm bored silly by even three minutes of sports coverage. Talked to all his viewers, not at them. Seemed to give us credit for being smart. Made sports accessable and interesting.

Then, just like the kind of firing wave that excused Rod, Lou was just gone. Finito. Steve Arena, a former KATU sports anchor, was back – suddenly, no explanation, no reason. From Arena, whose approach spoke more to just the sports fans (they really promoted that he was a coach in his off hours) we evolved into the endless tedious jocularity of the Carlson years.

I will no longer watch KATU for any news related programming. I agree with Shawn, Dave Salesky is a wind bag! I will tune in for Rod Hill, I love his energy and his accuracy.
