[passages] In A World ... Where "The Voice" Has Been Silenced ...

1742.

Don LaFontaine ... "that announcer guy from the movies" ... is no longer with us.

68 seems an awfully young age for a man with that sort of voice ...

I can't see the video due to the firewall at work, so I may be restating the obvious here, but...

My favorite memory of Don LaFontaine was when he did that Hollywood Video commercial a few years ago. The premise was that a customer came up to the counter and asked the clerk about a certain movie title, then LaFontaine suddenly crawled out of a low cabinet and began reading a synopsis in his signature "In a world..." voice. Then back to the cabinet until the next customer had a similar question. Hilarious commercial featuring a guy who wasn't afraid to make fun of himself.

Aw, I didn't know this had happened.

Thanks for stopping by Portland Oregon Daily Photo.

@ Stan: It's a shame. Seems every commercial he did is on YouTube ... 'cept that one. And that's the perfect one.

How he made such fun of himself and still retained cred is amazing to me.

@ Lynnette: I'm sad about it too. Movies just won't be the same. And you're welcome. I love that kitty picture!
